    Producer of the Thomas Global Register, the company is an engineering publishing firm.

    Summary MySQL DBA and Senior Database Architect, in charge of all databases for our department for a global, multi-lingual, 24x7 web-site where each database was in excess of 20 gigabytes.

    • For the last six years, was MySQL DBA and Database Architect; handled the installation of 38 of MySQL servers (from 4.0 to 5.1) under Windows and Linux (Red Hat / Centos distros);  installed, configured, and supported master-multi-slave and multi-master-slave replication; managed all version control of each configuration item (from my.cnf/mysql.ini to user-side connection strings), table-schema creation scripts, user-management scripts, backup & restore scripts, benchmarking, as well as extra-monitoring scripts.
    • Implemented load-balancing and redundancy via MySQL Proxy using custom designed scripts on dedicated servers.
    • User-management, sql-query/index and stored-procedure tuning, monitoring, scripts, backup/restore, replication and partitioning, scheduled task (cron), standards compliance and general developer support for database issues from connectivity to optimization.
    • Starting in 2003, designed, wrote, performed and tested the migration to MySQL 4.0 of all data and users, and stored-procedures (when later supported), replication and partitioning amongst the, then, eight (8) sets of multiple servers.
    • Administered legacy Oracle 8 database, handled user-maintenance, back-up scripting, query / index optimization, stored-procedures and triggers.
    • Handled the bulk-migration to Oracle (from FoxPro); wrote the migration tool in Delphi, which did batch processing (monthly) of over 16 gigabytes of data; tasked with constructing an update procedure to accommodate incremental changes, also written in Delphi.
    • For the first 3 years, complete maintenance of the Oracle instances, from installation and configuration, home, schema-design, tuning, indexing, analyses, benchmarking, stored-procedures (and packages) and patching.
    • Designed, implemented and maintained the multi-lingual search engine as Windows COM object in Delphi; designed, implemented, helped company initiate software-patent of the word-splitting algorithm for Chinese/Japanese/Korean languages in Delphi as a COM object to be used via ASP/ASPNET.
    • Re-engineered entire web-site for multilingual internationalization refactoring overhaul based heavily on UTF-8.

    Environment   Engines used included BlackHole, InnoDB, CSV, Archive, MyISAM, and Merge; script types included MySQLDumps, piped mysql-client, bash/perl/sed/awk/grep batches to facilitate monitoring, benchmarking, testing and general maintenance.
    Scripts, monitoring and software used included zmanda, navicat, toad for mysql, spotlight by Quest software, MySQL Enterprise Monitor (dashboard), MonYog, mysql (command-line client), mysqlhotcopy, mylvmbackup, mysqlcc.

    Summary    Delphi and Web development projects

    • Lead analyst, designer and programmer (both solo and leading teams of up to 4 other people) for four complete projects using Delphi (4 and 5) to generate front-end apps (client & web-based) for data on SQL Server 6.5 / 7, Interbase and Oracle 8.
    • Used Delphi 4 with MIDAS and Microsoft DCOM to access the Interbase database server backend to manage organizational fiduciary account information; optimized, debugged and rewrote Delphi code and stored procedures.
    • Completed entire development environment for designing web and normal client-server interactive self scoring assessments or surveys; entire life-cycle participation entirely in Delphi 5, capable of supporting scripts in VBScript, JScript and DelphiScript and Web version relied on ASP for implementation.
    • Analyzed Oracle-based competitors and migrated data to Interbase, including stored-procedures, triggers and data-tables with relations and foreign-keys; used clean-room techniques to rewrite work-alike application as per new client-requirements.

    Summary    Delphi Development of Windows Database Applications

    • Used Delphi 4 with MIDAS and Microsoft DCOM to access the Interbase database server backend to
    • Wrote sections of a Windows 3.1 work-tracking package in Delphi 1.0 which was a front end against an Informix database.
    • Wrote first-version of Criminal History management program in Delphi 1.0 for Windows 3.1; constructed a DLL interface to grab data from an internally emulated 3270 terminal, using Delphi as the front-end.
    • Later rewrote the Criminal History program for 32-bit Windows platforms (Win NT and 95) against an Informix database.
    • Wrote data-migration tools in Delphi 2.0 and Oracle PL/SQL, performed Oracle database maintenance functions; in charge of Delphi application optimization; extensively used Oracle, Oracle tools and Delphi 2.0.
